We recently attended and took part in the "Putting Me into Memory Services study (PMIMS)" this is an innovative study created by community organizations representing diverse ethnic groups in the region, it uses a creative research method called Photovoice to explore how different cultures view ageing and dementia, as well as the challenges they face in accessing healthcare and support.
The findings from the research will help shape workshops where stakeholders will work together to design a new support intervention.
This study is connected to the Deep End Research Alliance (DERA) at the University of Sheffield, which focuses on primary care research for marginalized communities.
This event is highly recommended for healthcare professionals, third sector organizations, and academics who want to enhance culturally informed and appropriate care.
Dementia impacts minority ethnic communities more severely, yet their use of services remains low. Through collaboration with our partners (SACMHA, ShipShape, and SCCC), this study delves into the cultural aspects of ageing and dementia to guide the development of more community-focused dementia care services.
The celebration event / exhibition created by photovoice participants and community researchers is currently underway and we recommend everyone who is able to visit.
